Below are some suggestions for helping one deal with the Covid-19 virus. You will notice some conflicting information regarding exercise. BOTTOM LINE IS: check with your health care professional (Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist) as to how to proceed. We are all individuals with different health challenges which will affect the mode of treatment suggested. If you are still in doubt, call Health Link BC at 811 and ask for more information.
First of all, the following link is information regarding rigorous exercise (the type you would do when well) if you are symptomatic with COVID 19:

Secondly, the following information has been shared by Registered Nurses (or relatives of R.N.’s). Some of these as well as following notes, have been known as home remedies for years. The World Health Organization maintains nutrition and exercise are keys to everyone’s health. As a Cosco Seniors' Health and Wellness Facilitator, I have found the workshops agree the two biggest determinants of our health, under our direct control are nutrition and exercise. In the past, many health professionals have talked about the necessity to breathe more deeply – it helps replenish oxygen in our bodies and is calming.
"My sister who is an RN gave me some information that not everyone knows: if you do catch this virus, with most sicknesses we catch, resting is key right? Not with this. She said that even though you feel just awful you have to get up and exercise your lungs. Practice deep breathing, drinking hot beverages, coughing, walking up and down stairs, CPT (percussions on your chest and back to break up mucus) and stay hydrated. Laying in bed and not keeping your lungs moving causes them to fill with fluid which turns into pneumonia. I hope sharing this information with others can help those who have the virus be able to stay at home and not end up in I.C.U."
The important thing is to keep moving around the house as much as possible. Too much time in bed can lead to pneumonia, something you want to avoid at all costs! Don’t forget, however, to have rests as needed.

Here are some tips that came from Ireland to one of our members:
- Sleep on your stomach if possible - it lets your lungs drain.
- Drink lots of hot fluids - water, tea and even coffee. (We usually aren't told to drink more coffee!!)
- Put a little Vaseline or mentholatum at the base of your nostril before going out into public.
Here are some tips I saw locally:
- open doors, handles, etc with your non-dominant hand. You are less likely to infect yourself by touching your face.
- if you are walking and area is too narrow to avoid each other, simply turn your back.
- frequently wash your hands with soap for a 20 second duration.
- daily gargling with salt water may be a benefit.
