Fact Sheet for the Society for Protection and Care of Seniors
Our full name is the Society for the Protection and Care of Seniors (2014)
(formerly the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Seniors – formed in 2006)
Purposes:
1. To advocate and actively pursue, health care issues of concern to Seniors.
2. To support quality living for seniors and the community at large.
3. To advocate and pursue options for adequate, affordable, accessible, safe continuing care resource and services for seniors within their immediate community including, but not limited to home support, rehabilitation, home nursing, adult day care, respite care, independent and assisted living, residential care, hospice/palliative care and spiritual care.
4. To support a publicly funded and publicly administered Health Care System.
5. To support improved access for health services – currently including MRI wait list times, access to outreach cardiac care support, enhanced transportation to and from medical appointments.
6. To make government and Interior Health Authority aware of care needs for seniors in our communities and to seek transparency and accountability.
7. To inform and educate the public and seek input regarding seniors' health care issues.
8. To communicate with other local, regional, provincial and national organizations having a similar purpose.
9. To raise funds necessary to meet these objectives.
Extra Details:
Board of Directors elected every two years. Executive committee meets 7-9 times annually. General Meetings – minimum of two annually, including the Annual General Meeting in April or May of each year. Others as determined by the Executive. Membership Fee - $5.00 per year, payable at the AGM.
Membership in other groups:
- Connected Communities (Committee of West Kootenay Advocacy Groups) – meets with Interior Health Authority representatives at least twice annually.
- BC Health Coalition (BCHC)
- Council of Senior Citizens Organizations of BC (COSCO)
